چکیده
The Casimir energy of a dilute dielectric cylinder, with the same light-velocity as in its surrounding medium, is evaluated exactly to first order in ξ 2 = ε 1 − ε 2 ε 1 + ε 2 2 (where ε 1 , ε 2 are the dielectric constants of the cylinder and of its environment), and numerically to higher orders in ξ 2. The first part is carried out using addition formulas for Bessel functions, and no Debye expansions are required.

Evaluation of the Casimir Force for a Dielectric- diamagnetic Cylinder with Light Velocity Conser- vation Condition and the Analogue of Sellmeir’s Dispersion Law
We study the Casimir pressure for a dielectric-diamagnetic cylinder subject to light velocity conservation and with a dispersion law analogous to Sellmeir’s rule. Similarities to and differences from the spherical case are pointed out.

Zero-point fluctuations in quantum fields give rise to observable forces between material bodies, the so-called Casimir forces. In these lectures I present the theory of the Casimir effect, primarily formulated in terms of Green’s functions. There is an intimate relation between the Casimir effect and van der Waals forces. Applications to conductors and dielectric bodies of various shapes will ...
متن کاملPerturbative zero-point energy for a cylinder of elliptical section
Vacuum fluctuations of quantum fields caused by the presence of boundaries produce changes in the zero-point energy, which give rise to the Casimir effect. Interest in quantum vacuum manifestations, including this phenomenon, has been propelled by new theoretical and experimental advances [1, 2, 3]. Hypothetical prospects of technological applications make even more desirable the knowledge of f...

We apply general formalism to derive Casimir surface force on a dilute dielectric ball without divergencies in intermediate calculations. The correspondence between the Casimir-Polder formula and Casimir surface force is shown. PACS numbers: 03.70.+k, 11.10.Gh, 12.20.-m, 12.20.Ds, 42.50.Lc E-mail: [email protected]
متن کاملCasimir energy of a dilute dielectric ball with uniform velocity of light at finite temperature
Calculations of the Casimir energy for spherically symmetric boundary conditions have been the issue of numerous papers, since the first calculation by Boyer [1] (see also [2, 3, 4, 5, 6]). Although a general theory describing the fluctuations of the electromagnetic field at finite temperature has been present for a long time [7, 8, 9, 10, 11], the extension of the results for the dielectric ba...
